City manager Doug Leslie appointed Gramling to the position on Monday. Gramling has served as assistant public works director for the past eight years.

Leslie said the city is conducting a regional search to fill the director position. The vacancy was created when Leslie was hired as city manager in September.

Gramling came to Cape Girardeau from the Illinois Department of Transportation where he was a civil engineer in project design. He has an engineering degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla.
