The local HSRT response team — composed of firefighters from the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, Jackson Fire Rescue and the Sikeston Department of Public Safety — performed hazmat training Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at the Cape Girardeau Buzzi Unicem cement plant. The training consisted of teams responding to a benzene leak from a 6,000-gallon tanker at a rater of one-half-gallon per minute, as well as rescuing multiple Buzzi Unicem employees serving as mock victims placed throughout the plant.
