CAIRO, Ill. -- A preliminary hearing has been postponed until Tuesday for the former Thebes, Ill., police officer who faces misconduct charges for allegedly releasing a person from custody in exchange for sexual favors.

Terry Crowe, 39, of Mounds, Ill., had been scheduled to appear today, but the Alexander County Circuit Clerk's office said the state's attorney had an emergency that caused the hearing to be postponed.

The preliminary will now be Tuesday at 10 a.m. before Judge Mark H. Clarke. Crowe is being represented in court by Shane Aden, a public defender.

Crowe was arrested in July by the Illinois State Police and charged with two counts of official misconduct. Crowe was being investigated for a year before his arrest and Thebes Mayor John Kennedy, also acting police chief, suspended Crowe while the investigation was pending. Crowe resigned a week after his suspension.
