Volunteers and supplies are needed today and throughout the week to help victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes.

Beginning this morning, a trailer at the Cape Girardeau Wal-Mart store will be accepting donations.

"We need volunteers to help accept donations and load the truck," explained Bryan Singleton, co-manager of the store. "We also need donations.

Anyone interested in volunteering should come to the store service desk or to the trailer between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

"We are doing this on behalf of the Cape Girardeau community," Singleton said.

The truck will remain on the lot for one week or until full.

A specific list of requested supplies has been provided, including bottled water, baby formula, baby food, diapers, dry and canned foods, sunscreen, hats or caps, lanterns, flashlights and batteries, school supplies, sheets, pillows, blankets and sleeping bags.

Used clothing should not be donated.

"It's best if things are boxed for shipping," Singleton said. "If not, we can get things boxed once it gets here."

The items will be given to the Feed the Children organization, which is coordinating relief efforts in Oklahoma.
