Police reported a state highway department employee injured himself Monday when he fell from scaffolding while working on the Kingshighway overpass at Interstate 55.
The man, Lawrence W. Fritz, 42, of Jefferson City, went to St. Francis Medical Center by Cape County Private Ambulance Service, said Cape Girardeau police Sgt. Carl Kinnison. A spokesperson there said Tuesday afternoon that the man remained in stable condition.
Kinnison said a police report on the accident did not say what type of injury or injuries Fritz had sustained or how far he had fallen. Police were notified of the fall at 4:57 p.m., police records show.
Kinnison said he didn't know what Fritz, who works for the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department, was specifically doing at the site. The report only says Fritz was working on the southbound overpass bridge, he said.
A telephone call to the highway department's Cape Girardeau office at Interstate 55 and Nash Road went unanswered Tuesday evening.
