As fast as Jackson continues to expand, Jerry and Mary Huskey know the city will eventually reach them. For the moment, though, they find the serenity of their North Main site relaxing.

"It's kind of quiet," said Huskey, who moved his certified public accounting business from its uptown West Main site in July, to the "unsettled" new East Main area, as a client called the location.

"We're out here among the deer," Huskey said. One evening when there was ice in the area, "we counted 40 deer crossing Main Street at 4:45."

Huskey has not found the quiet 2080 N. Main site at all problematic for his business, though. With more office space, more parking and a quieter atmosphere, he thinks it will be advantageous.

"We needed more room," he said. "It's really been a nice move. We have a lot more parking and we're still only two miles from the center of town. It's a lot easier to get to than somewhere on East Jackson Boulevard."

The Huskeys converted an existing house into an office. The garage has made a conference room -- something they had never had at their uptown site -- and the house converted easily into office space for the six full-time workers and one part-timer.

Of course the North Main site will be in a prime location if Jackson continues to expand. The anticipated I-55 exchange just north of there makes this expansion seem quite feasible.

"I really believe this area will grow," Huskey said. "Even if it doesn't, I'm still satisfied with where we are."

He noted that there is "more traffic than you would think" on the new Main Street extension.

Huskey has been in business since 1986 first in Cape Girardeau, and in Jackson since January 1990.

They Huskeys do individual, corporate, partnership, trusts and estate tax returns, general bookkeeping services, payroll services, as well as business planning and start-up services.
