One of Interstate 55's southbound lanes was closed for about 30 minutes shortly before noon Friday when the drivers of two pickup trucks that swerved to avoid each other ended up hitting the cables that run along the side of the interstate, police said. The two trucks never actually made contact with each other, said Darin Hickey, spokesman for the Cape Girardeau Police Department. A driver in one lane swerved into the other, causing both to drive off the interstate and into the cables. The driver and passenger in one truck were transported to a hospital for minor injuries. Hickey said it was unknown if any citations would be issued, although the accident was still under investigation. The left lane was closed for about 30 minutes before reopening to traffic.
