CHARLESTON, Mo. -- An escapee from the Mississippi County Detention Center is back in custody.

"It's the worst thing a sheriff faces," Mississippi County sheriff Keith Moore said about the escape.

Antonio Bogan, 26, of Charleston was being held in the county jail facility on a parole violation and distribution of drug charges, according to Moore.

Moore said Bogan escaped from his jail about 9 p.m. Saturday and was recaptured about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"He overpowered one of my jailers by busting him in the face -- fractured his nose," Moore said. "He took a set of keys from him and got out a door."

Moore said his department was assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. "We all worked around the clock following up leads," he said. "Through tracking phone conversations we came up with an address. It happened to be in O'Fallon, up around St. Louis."

Troopers from the patrol made the arrest once Bogan's location was confirmed. "Troop C's special operations team went there and captured him," Moore said.

Darren Cann, Mississippi County's prosecuting attorney, is working on filing additional charges on Bogan for the escape.

Authorities are also conducting an investigation and may be filing charges on anyone who assisted the fugitive.

Bogan is back at the Mississippi County Detention Center with additional security. "He will not be around [the jail's general] population," Moore said.
