ALLAMUCHY TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- A series of crashes Saturday on a foggy, rural stretch of Interstate 80 killed a 27-year-old woman and injured 29 others, four seriously, authorities said.

The accidents, which occurred within minutes of each other at about 5 a.m., involved seven cars, three tractor-trailers, a box truck and a bus. The roadway's eastbound lanes were closed for more than six hours.

The first crash occurred when a bus driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a box truck, which hit two tractor-trailers, state police Sgt. Gerald Lewis said.

Three of those injured were in fair condition at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Ten others were treated for injuries at Hackettstown Community Hospital and released, and others went to St. Clare's Hospital, Newton Memorial Hospital and Pocono Medical Center. No identities were released.
