The city of Jackson will help residents with spring cleaning during the annual Clean-Up/Fix-Up program, scheduled to begin Monday.

Jackson residents who qualify for solid waste pickup may place refuse at the curb by 8 a.m. during their normal trash collection day to be disposed of by city personnel.

Additional trash-bag stickers are not required for residential household waste, and the three-bag limit will not be enforced during the program. However, not all items will qualify for disposal.

No yard waste of any kind, motor oils, tires or hazardous materials will be collected. Paint cans must be dry or sealed to be collected.

Residents also are reminded that all items placed at the curb will be disposed of, including containers. Trashcans should not be left out unless they are intended to be junked themselves.

Appliances, televisions and computer monitors will not be picked up during Clean-Up/Fix-Up. Instead, these items may be disposed of during the city's e-cycle program from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 20 at the recycling center.

Each household's garbage must be bagged, tied, or bundled in some fashion and must not exceed the 4-cubic-yard limit during Clean-Up/Fix-Up. Four cubic yards is about the size of a standard pickup truck bed stacked three high.

Depositing waste belonging to anyone who doesn't live in Jackson is illegal and punishable by a minimum fine of $500.
