The American Public Power Association recognized the City of Jackson Electric Department for its reliability Monday during the association's annual Engineering & Operations Technical Conference in Sacramento, California.

Of more than 2,000 public power utility providers around the country, Jackson was one of 191 to receive the Reliable Public Power Provider designation for providing customers with exceptionally reliable and safe electric service. Director of Electric Utilities Dan Schuette thanked the many utility workers that helped the city earn the distinction.

"We're honored to receive [this award]" Schuette said. "Our utility staff puts in a lot of hard work to serve this community. [This distinction] represents a much appreciated recognition of their hard work and dedication. The worst conditions outside bring out the best in our utility crews.

The Reliable Public Power Provider award is based on providers' proficiency in four aspects: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Jackson's designation will last for the next three years.
