An estimated 5,000 people attended the fireworks display in downtown Cape Girardeau, making for a standing-room-only crowd on the Mississippi River side of the floodwall, but the number was still down from last year, organizers said. The 23-minute show was launched from the Mississippi River levee in Illinois. Old Town Cape, in conjunction with other sponsors, organized the event.
