A Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School student was injured in a hit-and-run accident Tuesday afternoon.
The girl was crossing Independence Street from the Amerimart to the school when she was struck by a vehicle and landed on the sidewalk on the north side of the road, Cape Girardeau Police Department patrolman David Valentine said at the scene.
Valentine said the car was an older, green hatchback driven by a male dressed in a chef's hat and coat.
The girl was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Valentine said.
The investigation continues.
This was the second time a child was struck by a vehicle in Cape Girardeau since Friday.
The girl injured Friday on North Street was taken to a local hospital, and has since been transported to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis for treatment of a broken femur, Valentine said.
