JOPPA, Ill. -- A Karnak man was killed early Monday when he ran a mini school bus off the road and into a creek.
An Illinois State Police spokesperson said Marvin M. Wartenbe, 46, was a bus driver for the Shawnee Development Council, which serves disabled people. He was driving the bus to work on the Joppa-Grand Chain Blacktop when he ran off the Post Creek bridge in rural Pulaski County.
The bus had no passengers.
It sank into the water, but Pulaski County Coroner Bill Atherton said Wartenbe died of internal injuries, not drowning.
