KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- About 30 people are forced from a burning apartment house into bitter cold before daybreak Wednesday, hours after four firefighters were hurt battling another blaze.

Fire crews fought a two-alarm fire that started around 5 a.m. in a four-story apartment building on the city's northeast side. Firefighters had the flames under control within an hour. A Metro bus was sent to the scene to give displaced residents temporary shelter.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

At a house fire in south Kansas City Tuesday night, four firefighters were hurt when they slipped on ice.

Overnight temperatures in Kansas City were in the single-digit range, with below-zero wind chill readings.
