Kennett police: Gas drive-off leads to high-speed chase

KENNETT, Mo. -- A 23-year-old Blytheville, Ark., man and a 32-year-old Kennett man were arrested Thursday following an alleged gas theft that ended with a high-speed chase.

According to Kennett Police Department Cpl. Jeremy Yates, officers attempted to stop a silver SUV on Independence Avenue after observing the vehicle driving at high speed.

The vehicle failed to yield to the officers and led police on a chase on Highway 25 before finally pulling over about a mile north of the city, where both men were arrested.

Officers learned that the vehicle had reportedly just left the Murphy USA station without paying for fuel.

The subjects are being held at the Dunklin County Justice Center pending the filing of formal charges.
