Lady Foot Locker, one of the country's largest specialty retailers of women's athletic footwear and apparel, has opened in West Park Mall.

"We offer a complete line of major name-brand athletic footwear, clothing and accessories," said Lisa Crews, manager of the business. "We have a wide selection and range of styles."

The store will hold its grand opening April 9-12.

"We'll be offering big discounts to all shoppers during this period," said Crews.

The Cape Girardeau operation is in a 1,500-square-foot area down the Famous Barr corridor. It will employ six people.

Crews, a native Southern Illinoisan, joined the firm last year, starting at Paducah, Ky. She has been working most recently with the Lady Foot Locker store in Crestwood Mall in St. Louis.

"With the number of active, sports-minded women increasing in the Cape Girardeau area, we're pleased to be opening a new facility here," said Jim Harrington, vice president and general manager of Lady Foot Locker. "This is a place where today's women can find all top-brand names to satisfy their footwear and active-wear needs."

Lady Foot Locker, headquartered in New York, has almost 500 stores in the U.S.

"We had 477 stores in the U.S. at the end of fiscal 1991," said Harrington. "We also have facilities in Canada under a separate division. We are the nation's largest women's athletic footwear and apparel specialty retail chain."

Lady Foot Locker is a division of Kenney Shoe Corp., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Woolworth Corp.

The store will maintain the mall hours of 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sundays.
