Cape Girardeau's city council approved the first reading of ballot language for the parks and storm-water tax Monday.

Voters will cast ballots April 8 to determine whether the half-cent sales tax will be adopted. Three-eighths of the tax would be levied for 10 years; the remaining one-eighth percent would have no sunset and be used to pay for operating costs.

The second and third readings of the ballot language returns for a city council vote Dec. 17. If voters approve the tax on April 8, it would begin Oct. 1.

  • Authorized the city manager to execute an agreement with Phillip Smith, architect, for renovation of the Mid-States Hangar at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.
  • Authorized the city manager to execute an agreement with Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission for federal aid program for Fountain Street, Phase II.
