Scott City student goes to Phoenix science fair

Abigail Messner, a student at St. Joseph School in Scott City, recently participated in the Intel International Science Fair in Phoenix as a student observer. The fair highlights science, math and engineering talent among high school students from around the world.

Lincoln wins contest, $500 scholarship

Kara Lincoln of Marble Hill, Mo., was the winner of the Knight Essay Contest and a $500 scholarship sponsored by the Sons of the American Revolution. Lincoln is a junior who is homeschooled through Lincoln Christian School.

Stanfield to attend Boys State in June at CMSU

Zach Stanfield, a student at Notre Dame Regional High School, was chosen to attend the American Legion Boys State of Missouri in June at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo. Stanfield is the son of Kevin and Susan Stanfield of Cape Girardeau.

Area students complete graduation exercises

Matt Stoverink, son of David and Linda Stoverink of Carthage, Ill. and the grandson of Irene Stoverink of Jackson, recently received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Heather Graham of Jackson graduated cum laude from Southwest Missouri State University. Andrew Luehrs of Jackson graduated summa cum laude from Southwest Missouri State University.

Scholarships given to several area students

* Melissa Jennings, a 2005 graduate of Jackson High School and daughter of David and Mary Ann Jennings of Jackson, received the 2005-2006 BioKyowa Scholarship to Southeast Missouri State University.

* Justin Welker, a 2001 graduate of Central High School and son of Jim and Terri Welker of Cape Girardeau, received the Voncile Bowen Huffman Scholarship to Central Missouri State University.

* Kenneth Richardson of Cape Girardeau, a 2005 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School, recently received the University of Missouri-Rolla Merit Scholarship.

* Matthew Morris, the son of Tom and Nancy Morris of Jackson and a 2005 graduate of Jackson High School, received a presidential scholarship from Southwest Missouri State University.

The following local students recently received scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University:

Victoria Boren, daughter of Doug and Cathy Boren of Jackson, regent's scholarship; Kelly Kuehn, daughter of John and Carla Kuehn of Perryville, Mo., president's plus scholarship; Julia Brown, daughter of Nicholas and Mary Brown of Jackson, president's scholarship; Margaret H. Yates, daughter of Ted and Margaret Yates of Cape Girardeau, president's scholarship and Missouri Leadership award; Anthony Riley, son of Donald and Marty Riley of Cape Girardeau, president's plus scholarship and Missouri Leadership Award; Austin Bock, son of Lee and Debbie Bock of Gordonville, Mo., regent's scholarship; Megan Rosenquist, daughter of Chris and Karen Rosenquist of Cape Girardeau, regent's scholarship; Jenna Jo Russell, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John J.
