Three chosen to attend Boys State at CMSUThree local students, Austin Lee Bock, Ben Jansen and Jared Schoen, have been selected to attend the American Legion Boys State of Missouri this week at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo. Bock is a student at Jackson High School, where he is involved in National Honor Society, student council, FBLA, FFA, football and wrestling. He is the son of Lee and Debbie Bock. Jansen is a student at Scott City High School, where he is involved in football. He is the son of B.J. and Doris Jansen. Schoen is a student at Oak Ridge High School, where he is involved in basketball, cross country and Eagle Scouts. He is the son of Bruce and Brenda Schoen.

Chaffee student named to SLU dean's list

Major Burger of Chaffee, Mo., has been named to the dean's list at St. Louis University for the spring semester. The dean's list recognizes students who have achieved a grade point average of 3.7 or higher while completing at least 12 semester hours of credits.

Central graduate receives $2,000 scholarship

Clay B. Tummins, a 2004 graduate of Central High School, has been selected to receive a $2,000 scholarship from Education Is Freedom Foundation. Tummins plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University this fall to pursue a pre-medicine degree. He is the son of Joyce Tummins of Cape Girardeau and Michael Tummins of Dickson, Tenn.

Thiele accepted into national collegiate society

Fallan Thiele has been accepted into the National Society of Collegiate Schools. Thiele is a student at University of Missouri-Columbia. She is the daughter of Ed and Doris Thiele of Jackson. NSCS is a selective national honors organization.

Legion's band students of the month announced

American Legion Post 158 recently announced band students of the month for March, April and May from Jackson High School.

Todd Diebold, a 2004 graduate, was chosen as student of the month for March. He is the son of Gary and Diana Niswonger of Jackson. In school, Diebold participated in all-state band, Hi-Step, wind symphony and chamber choir. He is a member of National Honor Society.

Travis Niswonger was chosen as student of the month for April. He is the son of Ron and Ruth Niswonger of Jackson and has been active in the school choir, baseball, FBLA and Hi-Step.

Freda Lintner was chosen as the student of the month for May. She is the daughter of Debbie Lintner of Jackson and in school has been involved in band. After high school, she plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University.

Robert graduates with honors from UMR

Tim Robert recently graduated summa cum laude from the University of Missouri-Rolla with a degree in chemical engineering, the top chemical engineering graduate with a grade point average of 3.95. He is a 2000 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School and is the son of Richard and Linda Robert of Cape Girardeau. He is employed as a design engineer with Nooter/Eriksen in Fenton, Mo.

Nursing endowment fund awarded to Wissehr

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- For her excellent academic record, Laura Wissehr of Jackson recently received the Helen Hapke Endowment Fund from the University of Missouri-Columbia's Sinclair School of Nursing. Last semester Wissehr earned a 4.0 grade point average. A 2001 Jackson High School graduate, she is the daughter of Cathy Wissehr.

Chaudhari graduates with honors from UIUC

Amir Rahim Chaudhari recently graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a master's degree in nuclear, plasma and radiological engineering. While working on his degree, he worked at the Beckman Institute. He hopes to pursue a doctorate at the University of Illinois. Chaudhari, a 1996 graduate of Central High School, is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Basit Chaudhari.

Henderson receives scholarship to Mizzou

Matthew Henderson, a 2004 graduate of Jackson High School, has been awarded a $500 scholarship to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia. Henderson, son of Thomas and Carol Henderson, is one of 20 Missouri high school seniors who will get help from the state agriculture department to pursue a degree in agriculture.

Jackson native named to WKCTC dean's list

Wynn Fredenburg of Jackson has been named to the spring 2004 semester dean's list at West Kentucky Community and Technical College in Paducah, Ky.

President's Scholarship awarded to Long

Tyler Long of Benton, Mo., has been awarded a President's Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year. Long, a graduate of Kelly High School, is the son of James and Julia Long of Benton.

Two area students make CMSU dean's list

Kelli Canfield and Terra Herzberger, both of Cape Girardeau, have been named to the spring semester dean's list at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg with perfect 4.0 grade point averages. Canfield also graduated cum laude in May with a bachelor of science degree in education.

Phillips gets President's Plus Scholarship

Majhon Phillips of Jackson has been awarded a President's Plus Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year. Phillips is a 2004 graduate of Crossroads Christian High School in Crestview, Fla. She is the daughter of Allen and Aleda Phillips of Jackson.

Sitzes gets Walton Foundation scholarship

Ryan Sitzes, a 2004 graduate of Jackson High School, has received the $8,000 Walton Foundation scholarship, funded by the family of the late Sam M. Walton, founder of Wal-Mart Inc.
