Marching Tigers win second at competition

Central High School's Marching Tigers band recently received second place in the Black Division at the Farmington Marching Invitational.

The band, led by drum majors Nick Uptain, Josh Reimann and Amber Probst, played songs from its 2003 show including El Toro Caliente and Black Rhapsody.

The band is under the direction of Neil Casey, Billey Keys and Josh LaMar.

McLain selected to enter Carleton College

Colin McLain of Cape Girardeau recently entered Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., as one of 492 students selected from nearly 5,000 applicants this year.

He is the son of Randy McLain and Judy McLain of Cape Girardeau, and a 2003 graduate of Central High School.

Area students take part in Girls State event

The following local students participated in the recent Girls State event:

Megan Kistner, daughter of Ron and Mary Kistner and Central High School student, was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club.

Sarah Michel, daughter of Caryn Michel and the late Ron Michel and Notre Dame Regional High School student, was sponsored by the Cape Elks Club.

Rachel Morse, daughter of Mark and Betty Martin and Central student, was sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Rotary Club.

Rachel Ruopp, daughter of Jack and Janice Ruopp and Notre Dame student, was sponsored by Kiwanis Club.

Meagan Freeze, daughter of John and Martha Freeze and Central student, was sponsored by the Evening Lions Club.

Drum enrolls in St. Louis technical college

Bradley Drum of Cape Girardeau has enrolled in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration program at Ranken Technical College in St. Louis.

Drum is a 2002 graduate of Jackson High School.

Kelly High grad receives agricultural scholarship

Michelle Felter, a 2003 graduate of Kelly High School, was chosen as a recipient of a Heartland Agricultural Scholarship. Her accomplishment was based on her overall academic excellence and her performance as a well-rounded student.

She is the daughter of Sam and Jolene Felter of Benton, Mo., and is a freshman at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

She is the granddaughter of Marcella Schlitt of Oran, Mo., and Drusilla Felter of Benton.

Benton student accepted to grad school at UNL

Doug Felter was recently accepted into graduate school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He will be studying to be a research scientist.

He graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri-Columbia in May 2003, with a bachelor of science degree in agribusiness systems management and a minor in agricultural economics

A 1999 graduate of Kelly High School, he is the son of Sam and Jolene Felter of Benton, Mo. He is the grandson of Marcella Schlitt of Oran, Mo., and Drusilla Felter of Benton.

Cape native Stanley receives degree from NU

Rachel A. Stanley of Cape Girardeau recently received a bachelor's degree from Boston's Northeastern University during the 2003 graduation ceremonies.

Meadow Heights names students of the month

Students of the month for September at Meadow Heights High School in Patton, Mo., were Randal Hobbs, Ashley Toombs, Derik Bess, Elizabeth David, Ashley Strong and Brittany Rolens.

Med student in hospital's surgical rotation

Megan Noon, daughter of Jim and Sally Noon of Scott City, is currently participating in a surgical rotation at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.

Noon is a fifth-year medical student at the University of Missouri in Kansas City.
