Local artist displays work at Glenn House

Local artist and recent Southeast Missouri State University graduate Melanie Reichert displayed her work on Friday at The Glenn House located at 325 S. Spanish St. in Cape Girardeau. The artist previously sculpted a piece titled "Little St. Louis," which was installed at Eden Spa in Cape Girardeau. The metal artwork is the largest sculpture created by a SEMO student. Some pieces from the exhibit are available for purchase and Reichert can be contacted via email at mnreichert2s@semo.edu.

"Equilibrium"- Reichert based the art piece of hands from a sketch she had previously drew and then incorporated jewelry into the set of hands.

"Untitled"-Reichert created the ceramic bust when she first began taking ceramics class at SEMO. She said she had previously mad a ceramic bust in high school with flowers featured in it and wanted to recreate it in a different way.

"Corrosion"-Reichert experimented with working with curves and surface altercation while sculpting the metal piece. "I think I have definitely grown a lot, because when I first started, I was dead set on being a painter," she said. "Then I ended up becoming a sculpture major and working in all of these museums. I learned a lot of things."
