ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Two lawsuits seek to shut down a privately owned recreation spot in eastern Missouri's Madison County, claiming it's unsafe.

In the last 20 years, at least six people have died at the Offsets Quarry near Fredericktown.

The owner, Gary Henson, admits there are rocks, ledges, and leftover pieces of rusty metal at the quarry, but said he warns people of those hazards before they enter.

Denise Mattingly said her son died there last Labor Day weekend. She says he slipped, fell, cracked his head and drowned.

The family of 16-year-old Brian Ruzicka also sued after he stumbled two years ago into an unmarked hole, fell 25 feet and was impaled on two rusty metal spikes in the stomach and groin.
