A Cape Girardeau man has been charged in a March 31 beating and theft on North Middle Street.

Online court documents show Jesse Boyer, 34, has been charged with one count each of first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.

A witness told police a man later identified as Boyer struck the victim in the head with a gun and ran toward a house on North Frederick Street, according to a probable-cause statement filed in the case.

A bag containing prescription medication was torn during the altercation, the affidavit said, and Boyer allegedly picked up the pills before fleeing.

The victim's injury was not life-threatening, according to previous reporting.

Boyer is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday. His bond has been set at $100,000.
