PORTAGEVILLE -- A man from the Israeli-occupied West Bank has died in a one-car crash in the Bootheel, the Missouri Highway Patrol said.

The victim of the Wednesday morning accident was identified as Mohammad Hasan. His exact age wasn't known, but he was born in 1930, authorities said. His hometown wasn't immediately available.

The patrol said his son, Omar Hasan, 38, of Memphis, Tenn., was driving and fell asleep. The southbound car veered into the median of Interstate 55, across the northbound lane and rolled into a ditch.

Mohammad Hasan was thrown from the car when it rolled into the ditch about 5 miles north of Portageville, the patrol said.

Omar Hasan had minor injuries and refused treatment, the patrol said.
