A Cape Girardeau man was only a few blocks away from his home when a vehicle ran over his head and shoulders on Friday.

Shortly after 2 a.m., passenger Joshua Henroid, 25, of 2859 Whitener St., tried to exit a 2000 Jeep Wrangler when the vehicle was stopped on westbound Independence Street at East Rodney Drive, said Sgt. Barry Hovis, spokesman for the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle, Jessica Bohannon, 22, told police that Henroid mentioned needing to use the restroom, but she did not notice him climbing out as she began pull forward, Hovis said.

Henroid possibly hung on and was pulled down into the path of the rear right tire, Hovis said.

He is recovering from serious injuries at Saint Francis Medical Center. Bohannon, who lives with Henroid, said he was in stable condition Friday evening and could be released today.

Officers observed an odor of alcohol on Henroid but found no evidence of alcohol on Bohannon, Hovis said.
