Charges were filed Thursday against Caleb E.J. Smith, 20, of Millersville, Mo., for felony stealing and first-degree burglary.

Smith is accused of breaking into a Cape Girardeau County residence on Jan. 14 while the residents slept, according to Lt. David James of the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department.

Smith was apprehended in late 2008 for a burglary after he was caught trying to sell some of the firearms stolen, James said.

Smith has been charged with two other burglaries that occurred at the same residence, James said.

Since that incident, Smith has been convicted of the burglary charge and placed on probation, James said.

Bond for the charges filed on Thursday was set at $100,000. Smith is currently held at the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department.
