DYERSBURG, Tenn. -- The Mississippi River bridge between Dyersburg and Caruthersville, Mo., has been temporarily shut down after it was struck by a barge.

The Coast Guard reported the incident to the Dyer County Sheriff's Department just before 1 p.m Saturday.

Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers, Dyer County sheriff's deputies and Pemiscot County, Mo., deputies closed the bridge to prevent traffic from going over it.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Robert Moore told the State Gazette the bridge would remain closed at least until Tennessee Department of Transportation bridge inspectors take a look at it.

There was no report of injuries to anyone on the barge and it was not immediately known if the barge was damaged.
