LONEDELL, Mo. -- Franklin County authorities are still trying to track down some of the pit bulls responsible for attacks on horses.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the dogs recently killed a miniature horse near the eastern Missouri town of Lonedell. Another horse owner, Pia Windwolf, slept in her barn to make sure her two Arabian horses were not attacked.
But the newspaper reported that on Tuesday, five dogs came into her yard, and two of them attacked one of the horses before they ran off, leaving the horse with bloody legs.
It hasn't been determined whether that horse will survive.
Sheriff Gary Toelke said the woman who owned the dogs promised to euthanize them after the first attack but didn't. Now she has left her home and authorities can't find her or some of the dogs.
