The Missouri Pops Orchestra conducted by Hugo Vianello will perform in Cape Girardeau on June 29 at 8 p.m. at Academic Auditorium.

The Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts and Boatmen's Bank, with financial assistance from Union Electric Co. and the Missouri Arts Council, will present the concert of popular, classical and contemporary music.

The Missouri Symphony Society has enlarged all sections of the Missouri Pops Orchestra since it last performed in Cape Girardeau. The more-than-40 members of the orchestra represent 15 states and five countries. They are professionals who play in other symphony orchestras during the winter or teach in colleges and universities.

The Missouri Pops Orchestra has grown into the largest in the state. Vianello has conducted the orchestra since it was founded in 1977. He is a violinist, composer and arranger in addition to being artistic director and conductor of the Missouri Symphony Society in Columbia. He is also associate conductor of the Kansas City Symphony.

Lindsey McKee, a British singer and actress who now lives in Kansas City, makes her debut this summer as mistress of ceremonies for the orchestra.

Tickets for the June 29 appearance are available at the Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts, 100 Broadway, and all Boatmen's Bank sites in Cape Girardeau. Tickets are also available by mail through the Arts Council, P.O. Box 901, Cape Girardeau, Mo., 63702-0901.

Adult tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Tickets for children under 18 are $2.50 in advance and $3 at the door. Arts Council and Boatmen's Super Set members receive a 20 percent discount.
