The Fruitland Fire Department spent more than three hours Monday fighting a blaze at a home at 5332 Highway C, just south of New Wells.

Crews responded to the residence around 7:20 a.m. after receiving a 911 call that a Winnebago was on fire. By the time crews were on scene, the fire had spread to the home.

"The Winnebago was sitting right at the corner of the house where the garage is," said firefighter Ralph Birk.

Because the Winnebago was a complete loss, firefighters were unable to determine the cause of the fire. The home is almost a total loss, according to Birk. The homeowner, he said, was able to salvage some items, such as photographs, clothing and firearms.

No one was at home when the fire started.
