Firefighters battled a blaze Tuesday afternoon at 523 N. Middle St.
When firefighters responded to the call around 1:30 p.m., everyone had safely gotten out of the residence, said Cape Girardeau Fire Department Capt. Mark Starnes.
No serious injuries were reported during the fire, but one female was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters believe the fire originated in an upstairs bedroom, and a mother and her two children were inside the room when it began, Starnes said. The fire was contained within about 10 minutes of the arrival of firefighters.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Flames and water did an estimated $25,000 to $30,000 worth of damage to the structure of the house, Starnes said.
