The Salvation Army has been seeking donations for its annual Thanksgiving meal, a service the organization has provided to the community for over thirty years. Last year's meal fed an estimated 2,200.

In its ongoing effort to help those in need, the Salvation Army relies on generous donations; as we have previously highlighted, it is far from having what is needed, however.

"We've received probably not even 5 percent of everything we need," said Capt. Ronnie Amick.

The good news is it is not too late to lend a hand. Today is the last day for turkey donations, but other food donations for the Thanksgiving meal may be made through Wednesday at the Salvation Army at 701 Good Hope St. in Cape Girardeau. The doors are open from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

In addition to feeding families and individuals on Thanksgiving Day, the Salvation Army is known for its kettle, stationed in various locations throughout the area and manned by volunteers. The kettle is a convenient way for people to contribute monetary donations. The Salvation Army has announced that this year's kettle goal is $327,000.

Kettle donations will be used to perform the charitable work for which the organization is known. So when you pass a kettle, consider adding to the pot.
