The Oran Fourth of July picnic will feature western wagon rides, a family-style dinner, musical entertainment, dancing and a fireworks display.

Other activities include a horseshoe tournament, a small-engine display and "games for all ages."

The Oran picnic has been an annual event since 1907. Since 1963, it has been sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

The wagon rides last from noon to 6 p.m. The dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4-7 p.m. Cost of the dinner is $5.50, children 6-12 $2.50 and under 6 free.

"You won't get a better meal," said Terry Seyer, publicity chairman. "We have fried chicken, roast beef and ham with all the trimmings, including drinks, dressing, fresh tomatoes, slaw and homemade pies and cakes. It's family style and you can eat all you want."

The musical entertainment includes the All-Stars from 3-6 p.m. and, from St. Louis, The Rodeo Girls, Amy Leigh (Bollinger) and Traci Lynn, from 6:30-10:30 p.m.

Admission for the 8 p.m.-midnight dance is $2, with music provided by Charlie's Music Revue.

Registration for the horseshoe tournament begins at noon, with an entry fee of $5. The open tournament begins at 1 p.m. and takes place under roof with eight pits.

The fireworks display begins at 10:30 p.m.

The antique small-engine display includes gasoline engines dating back to 1907. "There is always an engine running," said Seyer, "and if someone's interested in a particular one, we'll fire it up."
