According to a news release, the transportation agency will allow private and for-hire carriers to carry up to 10 percent more than their licensed weight, effective immediately, until noon Oct. 3. When crossing a bridge, a driver must travel no more than 30 mph, must center the truck between the two lanes of the bridge and must yield to oncoming traffic.

Overweight loads won't be allowed on interstates or on certain designated "national defense highways," none of which are in Southeast Missouri.
