Many people's New Year's resolution is to become more physically active. With that in mind, The Southeast Missourian went to Universal Physique to ask what motivates some of their members to exercise routinely. Terry McDowell: "Every morning as soon as I get up I run and I do it before I ever completely wake up so I don't have to think about it. I just go. I come up and work out three nights a week.

It's just part of my routine. If you stay in a routine it's no problem."

Walt Schroeder: "It is more of a personal habit as opposed to anything else. I think you have to decide whether or not you are interested in getting fit or not, and if that's what you decide to do, you have to realize it's got to be part of a routine and not a special occasion."

Cindy Hall: "What motivates me to come out here and to exercise is just to feel good about myself. I usually do it in the afternoon, and if I have had a rough day, it helps get rid of the stress."

Ken Scott: "I exercise for my health. I like to keep my body in tip-top condition because it makes me feel good about myself. Other people also notice the way a person looks and the way they keep themselves up. Your body is one way to keep your appearance up."

Theresa Burke: "A lot of people feel they have to come out and do it, but I enjoy doing it. Keeping in shape and feeling good is what keeps me motivated. It is also very good for relieving stress. I can come in on a bad day and be really stressed and leave smiling every time."

Corey Menz: "I use to be pretty heavy when I was in school. When I got out I started exercising. Since I got the weight off I feel real good about myself and enjoy the way I feel after exercising. That's what made me stick with it and motivates me. It has become a habit."
