The Southeast Missourian asked people what they thought about the verdict in the Rodney King case.
Clarence Walker said, "I thought it was unjust. They should all have been convicted. They violated Rodney King's rights. It was no different than clansmen beating Rodney King except they had blue uniforms instead of white sheets. It's like going back two or three hundred years."
Gina Harper said, "Justice was probably served this time. However, I don't think it should have ever went to the federal level. The state should have found them guilty. It was pretty obvious what happened and they should not have gotten off the first time."
Michael Robinson said, "I think the outcome of the Rodney King verdict showed there was a little justice done. Not very much however. If they were guilty the second time they should have been guilty the first. But it kept things quieter this time."
Aubrey Kiplinger said, "I believe they did the right thing as far as justice being served against the police officers by convicting them. They should not have beaten Rodney King. It was totally uncalled for and something needed to be done and it finally was."
Tanya Irby said, "I couldn't see anything King was doing on the tape that was in violation of the law, but I wasn't there. But I agree with the verdict. Both police officers were guilty. In fact, I believe all four were guilty and they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
Lilly Twiggs said, "It was partially right. I think they were all guilty except for the rookie officer who was fired. It should calm everything down for a while. But I don't think they will get the right sentencing for what they did. It will be just enough to keep everyone happy."
