Glueck gets recognition award at Murray State

Travis Glueck, a 2002 graduate of Kelly High School in Benton, Mo., recently received a recognition award at Murray State University.

Glueck is the son of Vincent and Cindy Glueck of Benton.

The recognition award is for out-of-state students and is based on academic performance, leadership and service.

Henderson awarded art auction scholarship

Elaine Henderson, a 2001 graduate of Delta High School, has been awarded an Art Auction Scholarship at Murray State University.

Henderson is the daughter of Tom and Carol Henderson of Delta, Mo., and is majoring in art/graphic design.

Kabo to attend World Space Congress

Erik Marshall Kabo of Cape Girardeau will attend the upcoming World Space Congress 2002 held in Houston, Texas in October.

Kabo is a student at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, where he serves as president of the school's American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Rice producers seek entries for essay contest

Missouri students in grades 4 through 12 are invited to enter the US Rice Producers Association's essay contest. Each winner will receive a check for $100 and his or her classroom or computer lab will receive a check for $500.

To enter, write an essay of 300 words or less that tells "how rice farming in my state affects, me, the environment, my community or the world." Essay must include name, grade, teacher's name, school, school address and phone number.

Entries should be sent either by e-mail to riceessay@aol. com or mail to US Rice Producers Association Essay Contest, 2900 Wilcrest Drive, Suite 180, Houston, Texas 77042.

Barrett earns provost scholarship, awards

Bryanna Barrett, a 2002 graduate of Notre Dame High School, has been awarded a Provost Scholarship, a Recognition Award, a Mabel Garrett Pullen Freshmen Agriculture Scholarship and an Equine Achievement Leadership Award at Murray State University.

Barrett is the daughter of Brian and Jo Barrett of Marble Hill, Mo. She is majoring in agriculture.

Payne earns degree from Southern Illinois University

Cynthia Elizabeth Payne of Cape Girardeau received her associate's degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill., during their summer commencement ceremony.

Felter attends Missouri Girls State session

Michelle Felter, daughter of Zeno "Sam" and Jolene Felter of Benton, Mo., attended the 61st session of Missouri Girls State sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Missouri.

She was sponsored by American Legion Post 369 Ladies Auxiliary of Benton, and was elected by her fellow delegates to the office of state senator of Drake City, Johnson County.

Felter is a senior at Kelly High School and is a member of FCCLA, History Club, CYC, Pep Club, FFA, Student Council, FBLA, 4-H, and Junior American Legion Auxiliary.
