Jackson senior earns spot in Who's Who

Kristen Howard of Jackson has been accepted into Who's Who Among American High School Students, 2001-2002 edition.

Howard is enrolled as a senior at Jackson High School where she is an "A" Honor Roll student and three-year letterman for the Jackson Lady Indians basketball team.

She is also a Junior Rotarian and is a member of Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, High Step and J Club.

She is the daughter of Greg and Joan Howard.

Smith named All-American Collegiate Scholar

The United States Achievement Academy recently announced that Jeremy Smith of Cape Girardeau has been named an All-American Collegiate Scholar.

All-American Collegiate Scholars must earn a 3.3 GPA or higher and must be selected by a school sponsor. Dr. Irene Ferguson was Smith's sponsor.

Smith expects to graduate from Southeast Missouri State University in December 2002 with a degree in technical computer graphics. He is a graduate of Cape Central High School and is the son of Mac and Jayne Smith of Cape Girardeau.

Local students earn achievement awards

Deanna Johnston and Nicole Stanfield, both students at Jackson High School, recently received Achievement Awards in Writing from the National Council of Teachers of English for 2002.

The students were chosen from among 2,000 high school juniors from across the nation.

Davis recognized by merit scholarship corporation

Stephanie Davis, a Cape Girardeau resident and student at Notre Dame Regional High School, was recently recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Davis is also a student of the Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo.

She placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1 million students who entered the 2001 competition by taking the 2001 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
