Patricia Pfefferkorn was crowned queen of the Golden Jubilee at Chaffee in September 1955 by R.P. Hamilton of St. Louis, safety director of the Frisco Railroad. Her court, in the front row, was composed of Patricia Castleman, maid of honor; Linda Montgomery, crown bearer; Carol Jo Campbell, flower bearer, and Marilyn Whitaker, maid of honor. In the second row were, from left, school superintendent Fred Lewallen, Edward Castleman, Harlan Whitaker and H.H. DeBerry.

The S.C. Perdue family of Oran won the prize for the biggest family present at the Chaffee Golden Jubilee celebration in September 1955. Mrs. Perdue and her 11 children posed for G.D. Fronabarger. From left, front row, were Cathy 2 1/2, Michael 4, Becky 5, Cindy 6, Pat 8, Jim 11, Monte and Stanley, twins, 12; second row, Lynda 13, Mrs. Perdue holding Danny 7 weeks old, and Judy 14. Each youngster received a prize and the twins got an extra one for being the oldest twins present. Mr. Perdue ws a truck driver, employed by a St. Louis concern.

As in the past, Cape LaCroix Creek couldn't carry all the water during the heavy, continuous rain this weekend. This picture was made Sunday morning after Saturday night's downpour, showing water over the intersection of Highway 61 and Bloomfield Road. (G.D. Fronabarger/Southeast Missourian archive)
