POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A Poplar Bluff man is in jail charged with molesting an infant left in his care for a short time over the weekend.

Lance Walter Hada, 20, was charged with first-degree child molestation by Butler County Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Barbour. He is being held in the Butler County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

At about 1 a.m. Sunday, officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department were sent to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in reference to the alleged sexual assault of a 1-year-old girl, according to police chief Danny Whiteley.

The girl's parents discovered the alleged abuse when they returned home after having left the child in the care of Hada, who Whiteley described as a family acquaintance. Hada, according to deputy chief Jeff Rolland, had been watching the child for about an hour before her parents returned home.
