POPLAR BLUFF, MO. -- The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center announced Monday that Marjorie Hedstrom has been selected by the Department of Veterans Affairs as medical center director of the Poplar Bluff facility and its outlying clinics.

Hedstrom currently serves as associate director for resources and operations for the VA Central Iowa Health Care System, and brings with her 33 years of experience in a wide range of medical and administrative fields. She graduated from Veteran Health Administration's prestigious Executive Career Development Program in 2006 and holds a master's degree in adult education from Iowa State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Iowa. Hedstrom also graduated from "Leadership VA" in 2010, and has held such positions as human resources manager, administrative assistant to the director, program manager, organizational development specialist, education specialist, nurse manager and staff nurse.

"As a future member of the Poplar Bluff community and medical center director of the Poplar Bluff VA, I look forward to the privilege of serving veterans in Poplar Bluff and the surrounding communities," Hedstrom said.

"We are pleased to welcome Ms. Hedstrom because we know she will be a tremendous asset to the Poplar Bluff VA team," said acting director and chief of staff Dr. Vijayachandran Nair.

Hedstrom will officially begin her duties as director May 20.
