BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- A Catron, Mo., man accused of killing his son in May will have a preliminary hearing today.

Charles C. Goforth, 40, was arrested May 5 and charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. The hearing had been previously postponed while officials awaited reports from various agencies.

Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner reported the shooting occured shortly after 5 a.m. May 5. The victim, 20-year-old Patrick Goforth, reportedly died from a single gunshot wound to the head. The shooting is reported to have taken place at the home of the elder Goforth.

No information has been released regarding the events that led to the shooting.

The Major Case Squad was activated early on the morning of the incident.

Charles Goforth remains in the Stoddard County Jail under a $750,000 cash-only bond
