Two employees were injured during a fire early Monday at Procter & Gamble, 14484 Highway 177 in Jackson.

The extent of the injuries were unknown Monday afternoon.

East County and Fruitland fire departments responded to a call made about 5 a.m. East County Fire Chief Dwayne Kirchhoff said the fire was contained by employees by the time crews arrived.

"We helped with overhaul and ventilation in the area," he said. "It was contained to just one area."

The incident began when a piece of equipment caught fire, Kirchhoff said.

The plant in Cape Girardeau County manufactures items such as toilet tissue, paper towels and diapers.
