Five Procter & Gamble Fund Scholarships have been awarded to area students whose parents work at the Cape Girardeau P&G plant. The scholarships went to: Kristi Freese, daughter of Larry Freese and Ronda Heaton of Jackson; Christine M. Auer, daughter of Andy and Margie Auer of Cape Girardeau; Daniel G. Perry, son of James and Susan Perry of Jackson; Amanda Lou Ann Allmon, daughter of Roger and Linda Allmon of Jackson; and Steven Goetz, son of Larry and Vickie Goetz of Chaffee...

Five Procter & Gamble Fund Scholarships have been awarded to area students whose parents work at the Cape Girardeau P&G plant.

The scholarships went to: Kristi Freese, daughter of Larry Freese and Ronda Heaton of Jackson; Christine M. Auer, daughter of Andy and Margie Auer of Cape Girardeau; Daniel G. Perry, son of James and Susan Perry of Jackson; Amanda Lou Ann Allmon, daughter of Roger and Linda Allmon of Jackson; and Steven Goetz, son of Larry and Vickie Goetz of Chaffee.

Freese, a 1994 graduate of Jackson High School, was secretary of the National Honor Society, secretary-treasurer of the "J" Club, secretary of student council, editor-in-chief and royalty editor of the yearbook "Silver Arrow," president of Peer Tutors, and a member of the Just Say No Club, Students Against Driving Drunk Club, Senior Steering Committee, Future Business Leaders of America, and Junior Rotarians. Additional honors include three-year varsity letterman in track and serving as a candy striper at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She plans to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia in the fall to study pre-medicine.

Auer, a 1994 graduate of Notre Dame High School, was president of National Honor Society, vice-president of the senior class, Notre Dame musical stage manager, and a member of concert choir, Fund-raising Club and Projects Club. She played volleyball. Additional honors include "A" honor roll, Rotary Club student of the month for February, Bright Flight scholarship recipient, and salutatorian of the 1994 senior class. She plans to attend Saint Louis University in the fall to study pre-medicine.

Perry, a 1994 graduate of Jackson High School, was captain of varsity soccer and was a member of Peer Helpers, Peer Tutors, Just Say No Club and Junior Rotarians. He participated in Math Field Day. Additional honors include Missouri Scholars Academy, scholastic honor roll, Boys State, 1993 Outstanding Athlete award, Elks Student of the Month, USAA All-American scholar, and Who's Who Among American High School Students. He plans to attend the University of Missouri-Rolla in the fall to study mechanical engineering.

Allmon, a 1994 graduate of Jackson High School, was a member of the student council, National Honor Society and speech and debate team, Peer Tutors and Helpers, Future Business Leaders of America, Just Say No Club, Junior Rotarians, Jackson Drug Free Advisory Council, "J" Club, Pep Club, J.C. Penney Teen Advisory Board, scholastic honor roll and National honor roll. She played varsity softball and was a twirler in marching band. She served on the "Silver Arrow" yearbook staff and was a member of the All-American Scholar Award. She was a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital and was a Senior Steering Committee member. Additional honors include four-year varsity letter winner in softball; Elks Student of the Month award; first-place winner in speech and debate districts for original oratory; state speech qualifier; second place in Future Business Leaders of America districts for public speaking; first-place school winner of Voice of Democracy speech contest; third place in Voice of Democracy speech districts; pin winner from speech and debate team; Girls State attendant, Outstanding Athlete award, Golden Glove award, and Noon Optimist Student of the Year award. She plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University in the fall to study pre-medicine and biology.

Goetz, a 1994 graduate of Chaffee High School, was a member of Beta Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Biology-Ecology Club, Varsity Club, French Club, Future Homemakers of America and Pep Club, and was vice-president of the senior class. Additional activities included baseball, basketball and football. He was on the "A" honor roll and was an academic letter recipient. He plans to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia in the fall to study electrical engineering.

The scholarship program awards college scholarships based on the candidates' academic achievements, leadership skills, accomplishments outside the classroom, and school recommendations. Each scholarship provides $1,000-$3,000 per year for up to four years of full-time study at an accredited college or university.
