Copies of photographs, preferably digital, from Relay for Life campsites, survivor and luminaria ceremonies are being requested for use in a commercial to air on Charter Cable Network to promote Cape County's Relay for Life, June 4 and 5 at Cape County Park North.

Selected images should reflect what symbolizes Relay for Life. Also being recruited are individuals wishing to appear in commercials.

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life is an annual overnight event featuring teams of eight to 15 members from civic groups, neighborhoods and families interested in boosting cancer awareness and education, honoring survivors, remembering those lost to cancer and having fun while participating in fundraising.

Annually a theme is chosen and this year it's "Survivor."

Activities will include a survivors reception, scavenger hunt, midnight dance contest, a pajama modeling event, relay laps and a luminaria ceremony.

The event was founded in 1985 by Gordan Klatt of Tacoma, Wash., a surgeon and local American Cancer Society volunteer, who ran and walked solo around a track for 24 hours, traveling 81 miles. He raised $27,000 to fight cancer.

Now the relay is the American Cancer Society's signature event, annually raising more than $200 million in 2,800 communities nationwide.
