I-55 will be reduced to one lane starting today

Interstate 55 near Jackson will be reduced to one lane starting today at 6 a.m. as crews with MoDOT continue work on the construction of the LaSalle Avenue/East Main Street interchange project. Work will take place from about mile marker 101 to 103 in both the northbound and southbound lanes. The lane reductions will last from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Friday, weather permitting. Workers will be starting on a median crossover as part of the interchange project. The crossover will be needed as traffic will be diverted to construct a bridge on I-55 that will go over East Main Street and LaSalle Avenue. For more information, call (888) ASK-MODOT.

MoDOT to hold public meeting on interchange

The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting concerning the LaSalle Avenue/East Main Street interchange from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Department of Conservation Nature Center in Cape County Park. Three store clerks cited for alcohol violations

Three clerks at area convenience stores were cited for selling alcohol to minors during a compliance check last month by the Missouri Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control. In addition, the stores face possible fines or suspension of their liquor license. Those cited were Jennifer Allen, 18, at the Millersville Gas & Grocery in Millersville; Wilma Sanders, 56, at the Corner Stop Cafe and Grocery in Burfordville; and Ronald Ressel, 25, at the Chaffee One Stop in Chaffee, Mo. Seven of the 10 locations where compliance was tested did not sell to minors. They are Oak Ridge Market in Oak Ridge, Smith Stop in Dutchtown, Delta Quick Mart in Delta, Oran Kwik Stop in Oran, Mo., Rhodes 101 Stop in Chaffee, Tanks One Stop in Scott City and Rhodes 101 Stop in Scott City.

Film company holds casting call for 'Fire Lily'

Victory Film Productions, Inc., will hold an open casting call for its independent film "Fire Lily" being directed by Southeast Missouri State University theater and dance department chair Dr. Kenn Stilson. The casting call will be at 6 p.m. today at the Rose Theatre on the Southeast campus. Roles are available for teenagers and for adults of all ages. Filming will occur in and around Cape Girardeau Thursday through July 12. For more information, call 986-6818.
