Teen critical after shooting

SIKESTON, Mo. -- A Sikeston teenager was in critical condition after being shot in front of his house. About 2:30 a.m. Saturday, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety received a call of a person shot in the 1500 block of East Kathleen Street, according to Capt. Jim McMillen. Officers found a 16-year-old boy in the doorway with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. "The teen said he was shot in the street in front of the house after being confronted by two unknown subjects," McMillen stated in a news release Sunday. "The teen said the two men were wearing masks and were trying to rob him. The teen said he resisted and was shot in the stomach by one of the men." The boy was taken to a hospital and later was flown to a trauma hospital in St. Louis, McMillen said. "At last report, the teen was said to be in critical condition," he said. Police are asking anyone with information to call Sikeston police at (573) 471-4711.

Man accused of stabbing 5-year-old

CLAYTON, Mo. -- A 20-year-old man was jailed on $500,000 bond after being accused of stabbing a 5-year-old boy in the stomach while the boy was under his care. Andrew Plaster is charged with felony abuse or neglect of a child, first-degree assault and armed criminal action. St. Louis County police said Plaster was watching the boy Thursday when the stabbing happened. Investigators said Plaster initially reported he wasn't sure what happened, then said the boy stabbed himself. Authorities said Plaster later said he accidentally stabbed the boy when the two turned toward each other.
