Young Audiences of St. Louis will present "The Rhythms and Folklore of Africa" at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in Academic Auditorium as part of Southeast Missouri State University's celebration of National Black History Month.

Presented by the university's Cultural Programs Committee, the program will feature St. Louis performers Kenya Ajanaku and Jamila Afi. Ajanaku and Afi will present a broad sampling of Africa's tribal traditions through stories, poems and dance.

In addition, the audience will have the opportunity to participate in an instrument demonstration and a rhythmic celebration of dance customs.

Young Audiences is a national nonprofit organization which brings entertaining and educational performing arts programs to young people and adults. In addition to live performances, Young Audiences of St. Louis offers arts education programs and services, including classroom workshops, customized residencies and master classes.

General admission tickets for the performance may be purchased at the door for $4. Tickets for students, other than those attending Southeast, and senior citizens are $2.

Southeast faculty, staff and students will be admitted free with university identification.
