Heath Burger and his family harvest their 270 acres of rice Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 off of Route AB in Cape Girardeau County. This was the first year the family has grown rice, and is the only rice farm in Cape Girardeau County. The combine holds 325 bushels. The rice harvest is transported to a grain bin in Benton, Mo. where it will dry out until January or February before it is sold.
